Social Justice and Reform

Hi, Quixotic guests!

We hope you’re staying safe and healthy as the days get shorter and chillier! It’s been an unusual year, and we wanted to tell you about some new things happening at the shop.

In response to the murder of George Floyd in our neighboring city, just one among countless incidents of individual and systemic violence against Black people in America, we wanted to make our stance clear: Black Lives Matter. In solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, we’ve adopted a new purpose statement:

Quixotic Coffee is deeply committed to and will continue to purposefully discuss and deepen our knowledge, understanding, and commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and antiracism, and we strive every day to do better and be better in these efforts in order to foster an authentic sense of belonging for all.

 As part of these efforts, a number of employees have formed a committee to plan and carry out antiracism initiatives at Quixotic, such as:

  • Incorporating specifically antiracist language into our employee handbook in order to ensure that all employees are committed to antiracism in the work environment;

  • Implementing antiracism and de-escalation trainings for current staff and new hires, in order to provide alternatives to police involvement in conflict situations;

  • Continuing to partner with Black-owned businesses, such as PJ Murphy’s (catch their baked goods in our pastry case on weekdays!);

  • Partnering with other organizations dedicated to social justice in our community, such as Wildflyer Coffee, by making their merchandise available in our shop; and

  • Displaying and selling art, merchandise, and other goods created by BIPOC artists and artisans in our shop. Any interested BIPOC (or otherwise) artists can contact us at through our web form in the Contact Us page of our website

 We’re excited to introduce the first three artists who will be displaying and selling their art in our space:

  • Our artist for November will be Philipo Dyauli. (Instagram: @philipowashere).

  • Our artist for December will be Rajine Williams of Rajine The Queen Artistry. (Instagram: @whataweirdkidcreates).

  • Our artist for January will be Hibaaq Ibrahim of Moon Juice Art (Instagram: @moonjuiceart).

 It is important to us that our shop is a welcoming space, and we recognize that this cannot be the case without a constant dedication to fighting systemic racism and injustice in our country and our community. Thank you for your support as we continue seeking new ways to help create a just and equitable future.
